Amex Digital Labs is responsible for catalyzing innovation at American Express by originating, incubating, and managing products and platforms that are essential to our customers’ lives. We are a fast-paced team that leverages emerging technologies to develop digital payment and financial services products, customer servicing solutions, and engaging membership experiences. We often collaborate with top technology companies and strategic partners to bring products to market.

We are seeking a manager to bring products and services to life within the crypto and blockchain space. You will shape the future of how American Express comes onchain by contributing to the strategic vision, defining winning strategies, and building new product concepts. This role will require the ability to operate in a white space area with a deep understanding of both the crypto landscape and traditional payments systems. For example: you can explain, at a high level, both a blockchain consensus mechanism and how a payment service provider operates.

We are looking for a strong communicator who can simplify complex topics and drive alignment across teams. You will collaborate extensively with the Digital Labs Product team and a broad range of internal stakeholders including Strategic Partnerships, Enterprise Strategy, Global Commercial Services, Merchant, Network, Treasury and Amex Ventures.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the crypto & blockchain strategy across the company developing use cases by working with key teams to understand business needs

  • Lead both short-term pilots and longer-term strategic developments across the crypto space

  • Conduct brainstorms and drive ideation process in partnership with Product team to determine new products and features

  • Convert industry, competitive, and regulatory developments into clear opinions for how the company should engage

  • Regularly collaborate on leadership conversations and create executive-facing materials

  • Deepen partnership with Amex Ventures to pilot new capabilities and build scalable participation in the ecosystem through internal proof of concept pitches

  • Monitor the crypto/stablecoin market to identify potential partners, support updates to existing roadmaps, and summarize market moves with clear recommendations

  • Contributes to partnership and pilot development by researching options, building business cases, and coordinating evaluations with stakeholders

  • Influences across teams by clarifying problem statements and trade-offs; helps drive alignment through clear notes, summaries, and follow-ups.

  • Collaborates well with Product team; translating business needs into requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Deep experience in crypto and public blockchain ecosystems with detailed knowledge of the landscape, very consistent experiences as a user of these new technologies

  • 3 years of partnerships, business development, or strategy experience

  • Strong communicator—concise writing and clear, polished presentations; comfortable engaging colleagues at different levels and functions

  • Familiarity of financial-services controls: KYC/AML, sanctions, data privacy/security

  • Strong project management skills: organizes timelines, tracks milestones, manages risks/dependencies, and keeps things moving

  • Proactive, adaptable self-starter who learns quickly and stays effective in a fast-changing environment

Qualifications

Salary Range: $89,250.00 to $150,250.00 annually bonus benefits
