Our Audio Technology team develops and integrates new audio features for Apple's products. We are a team of diverse engineers coming together to create prototypes of innovative audio technologies and guiding their implementation into Apple's products. We work openly and collaboratively throughout Apple's deeply-connected engineering and product development teams. We are looking for an Applied Acoustic ML Engineer to help take our products to the next level. Could this be you?
Description
The primary activity of the Senior Applied Acoustic ML Engineer is to productize novel technologies in processing and understanding. Activities will include (but aren’t limited to) defining methods for exploring new technologies, understanding industry trends, and coordinating initiatives company-wide on adapting, developing, and deploying the machine learning models behind new audio experiences. This will work will require leading and guiding the work of others both within the Acoustics team and with other teams within Apple, to ensure Apple takes a industry-leading position in the techniques and performance of its machine learning methods for audio.
Minimum Qualifications
Most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Acoustics, Signal Processing, Electronics or an equivalent field, but if you have followed a different path to expertise in acoustics or sound quality, we still want to hear from you
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications
Great understanding of audio and audio signals
Proficiency in Python and PyTorch and/or other ML training frameworks
Understanding of audio signal processing (EQ, Dynamic range compression)
Proficiency in modern AI/ML: self-supervised learning techniques, transformer models as applied to media signals, contrastive learning
Experience developing audio prototypes using Max
Experience shipping high-complexity, high-volume consumer electronics
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
