How will you make an impact in this role?
This Vice President will be an integral part of the Corporate Development team, tasked with supporting American Express’ growth and innovation through M&A transactions. This individual will be responsible for working in close consultation with the AXP business units and senior management to develop M&A strategy and identify possible acquisition, divestiture and joint venture transactions. This position will report directly to the EVP, Head of Corporate Development.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with senior management and business units to develop and prioritize strategic objectives and evaluate M&A opportunities against identified strategies
Define inorganic areas of interest and develop rationale and value creation thesis
Establish relationships with bankers, PE and VC firms to understand portfolio opportunities, in a M&A, investment or partnership capacity
Track developments and trends in various payments, lending, B2B, digital consumer services, and other industries pertinent to our customers
Work with deal teams to evaluate potential transactions and develop business cases from strategic, operational and financial perspectives
Prepare and communicate recommendations to senior management, including interaction with C-level management and the Executive Committee
Minimum Qualifications
10 years previous experience in investment banking, corporate development, consulting, business development or similar roles
Exposure to FinTech, Consumer Services, and Software a plus
Must possess excellent business acumen and strong collaboration and influencing skill as well as ability to drive results
Strong analytical capability, including the ability to quickly learn new business models and identify trends in both existing and emerging industries
Expert financial and valuation skills and must be able to frame and guide financial analyses
Excellent project and process management skills and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and drive results while working under tight deadlines
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to distill complex issues quickly and summarize key implications to senior management
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with PE, venture firms and investment banks
Qualifications
Salary Range: $176,750.00 to $282,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
