How will you make an impact in this role?
Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in providing payments solutions for small, medium and large businesses. To ensure we keep on the leading edge of the dynamic commercial payments landscape, the GCS Strategy, M&A and Alliances team is charged with defining the long-term business objectives and driving strategic opportunities to accelerate revenue growth. The team plays an integral role in defining, developing, and leading new strategies, inorganic growth (M&A), partnership (Alliances) opportunities, as well as managing Annual Investment Planning, Opex, and Strategic Engagement Team to accelerate our overall strategy and vision.
The Senior Manager, Strategic Alliances, will be responsible for the comprehensive management of a portfolio of high-profile group purchasing partnerships that have high relevance to GCS’s strategic priorities to grow B2B payments volumes in key industries. This individual will drive existing customer engagement through targeted go-to-market initiatives and ensure all controls and compliance requirements are met. Additionally, this individual will partner heavily with teams across GCS and the broader enterprise to ensure consistent alignment and success.
This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong eye for business, an ability to lead cross-functional relationships, multiple workstreams and collaborators to achieve the goals of these partnerships.
Partnership Strategy & Execution
Develop and own strategic roadmaps for named partners, develop business growth opportunities and prioritize execution in alignment with enterprise goals.
Serve as the main point of contact for assigned partners, leading contract negotiations, joint business reviews, governance forums, and executive engagements
Partner with internal teams to define go-to-market strategies, client adoption plans, supplier enablement, and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide objectives
Identify and manage partnership risks, ensuring commercial, operational, and regulatory alignment
Commercial Management & Growth
Lead negotiations and contract renewals in close collaboration with GCO and Finance teams
Identify and size new partnership opportunities, ensuring business cases and forecasts are aligned with strategic priorities
Drive operational excellence through governance frameworks, partner scorecards, and continuous improvement initiatives
Market & Ecosystem Leadership
Monitor trends across B2B payments, fintech, and ERP ecosystems to identify emerging partnership opportunities
Represent GCS in external partner forums and cross-industry conversations to influence ecosystem standards and advance Amex’s competitive positioning
Minimum Qualifications:
Proven track record leading complex, enterprise-level partnerships or alliances in payments, fintech, or technology environments
Strong understanding of B2B payments flows, API integration models, and commercial enablement ecosystems
Exceptional relationship management and influencing skills with the ability to navigate across senior levels internally and externally
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; comfortable synthesizing insights for senior leadership
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional workstreams in a fast-paced, matrixed organization
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
4 years of experience in commercial payments, product partnerships, or strategic business development
Knowledge of procure-to-pay and payment management platforms, treasury operations, and ERP integrations
Experience with deal structuring, contract negotiation, and partnership performance management
MBA or equivalent preferred
Qualifications
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
