Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer position within the Science and Technology (S&T) organization is responsible for supporting the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems and components for electro-mechanical combination and medical device products. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to solve complex engineering problems. Primary goals, objectives and functions include:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components to meet project specifications.

  • Conduct analysis and testing to ensure the reliability and performance of mechanical designs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Elevates AbbVie’s device development (execution and procedures). This includes the identification and leadership of improvement initiatives and connecting unrelated concepts to refine and/or replace our products and processes. Conduct analyses (e.g. calculations, tolerance analysis, etc.) as needed to improve product and component designs. Develop and execute test plans to ensure product performance and reliability.

  • Collaborate with external device partner teams to optimize designs for production and support manufacturing production.

  • Prepare technical documentation and reports.

  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical designs.

  • Ensure compliance with Medical Device industry standards and regulations.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and efficiency.

  • Conduct effective root cause analysis to investigate issues relating to Electro-Mechanical products and associated processes

  • Verification testing (planning, fixture development, test method validation, protocol development, and test execution). The team members will be responsible for multiple, often concurrent, projects including those involving external development partners.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Master’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering AND Two (2)+ years in the Medical Device, Engineering or Pharmaceutical Industry in relevant device development.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering AND Five (5)+ years in the Medical Device, Engineering or Pharmaceutical Industry in relevant device development.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or Creo CAD software.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analyses.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. Salary: $73,000 - $138,500
