This role sits in the global Corporate Affairs & Communications organization supporting the Reputation Management team that leads external and internal communications strategy and execution for reputational risk, including policy issues and crises.
The Manager will work cross-functionally to develop internal communications and change management strategy with a particular focus on risk management. This role will support the Global Risk & Compliance department, the American Express National Bank (AENB), the Internal Audit Group, the General Counsel’s Organization, as well as issues management and reputational risk management and reporting.
This role will develop plans and messaging around enterprise risk, operational risk, control management, compliance, and internal policies, as well as strategic colleague communications plans, memos, presentations, bulletins & announcements, executive blog posts, and other colleague engagement content.
This position requires strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to distill complex topics into clear messages for a range of audiences. Additionally, the Manager will need excellent executive presence and relationship building skills, a high degree of focus on details, enterprise thinking, strategic industry knowledge, robust experience with issue management, team management and ability to forge strong working relationships across teams.
How will you make an impact in this role?
Quickly developing a deep understanding of American Express, its business and customers to find/create opportunities to tell the American Express story.
Implementing communications strategy, including the creation of content across internal communications channels, talking points, speeches, and presentations.
Overseeing monitoring, measuring and reporting of communications and reputation management activities.
Partnering effectively with communications colleagues to ensure consistency in messaging across the enterprise.
Minimum Qualifications
5 years communications/public relations experience with demonstrated ability to handle all types of media.
Proven internal communications experience, with track record of exercising sound judgment and clear decision-making under tight deadlines.
Experience and knowledge of banking, risk/compliance, change management and/or reputation management.
Proven track record to own and drive projects independently with senior level guidance, demonstrate resourcefulness and drive to move projects forward.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across functions and levels.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
Ability to flex across projects to support the team on both internal and external communications needs (writing, research)
Excellent project management skills and ability to thrive while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
Excellent judgment.
Strong analytical, strategic, and creative skills.
Experience providing confident and persuasive counsel to clients.
Excellent leadership skills, must be focused on process with an ability to build strong followership across the team and enterprise.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
